American Red Cross, Sept. 6

The American Red Cross continues to operate shelters throughout the region for people displaced by wildfires. Last night, the Red Cross provided 40 overnight stays in the shelters plus food, water and comfort kits to 100+ people staying outside the shelter. Individuals and families displaced by wildfires and in need for shelter assistance may simply show up for help. The Red Cross is operating wildfire relief shelters at the following locations: Eagle Creek Wildfire, Mt Hood Community College, 26000 SE Stark St, Gresham, OR 97030; Hedgewald Center, 710 SW Rock Creek Drive, Stevenson, WA; Chetco Bar Wildfire, Brookings Church of the Nazarene, 1600 Chetco Ave, Brookings, OR. How to Help: People interested in helping Red Cross relief efforts are asked to please make a financial donation to the American Red Cross at redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS. Financial donations to “Disaster Relief” allows the Red Cross to purchase the exact supplies required for the needs of a specific disaster relief operation. The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
