Coos Bay City officials say the Yacht America will visit Coos Bay on August 25, 2015, not August 5th as promoted on their website about their 2015 West Coast Tour leading up to the 2017 America’s Cup in Bermuda. According to promotional information on the tour’s website, the schooner is a replica of the 1851 yacht that stunned the world by winning the legendary sailing race around the Isle of Wight and won the trophy that now bears her name, the America’s Cup. The ship did visit Newport on Saturday, August 1st. The 2015 West Coast Leg began July 3 in San Diego. The yacht is expected to moor at the City of Coos Bay’s docks near Downtown Coos Bay. The sailing ship is scheduled to complete the tour Sept. 2nd in Oceanside, CA.
