News release from the BACC. A great evening was had by all, Saturday January 30th, at the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet—Bettin’ on the Bay! Wonderful food, unique entertainment, and a variety of awards and recognitions which truly make this a community celebration. Citizen of the year is an honor given to a member of our community who, by consistently giving of their time, energy and resources, has made Oregon’s Bay Area a better place to live. For 2015 that award was given to Allan Ledesma. He is probably best known as a computer whiz helping many non-profits to be successful on line. He also believes in kids learning and enjoying sports, especially soccer. The Business of the Year award is given to a business that has exhibited excellence in products and customer service; contributed time, manpower and resources to community improvement projects; and excelled in employee relations and training. The 2015 award went to Oregon Pacific Bank, honoring their excellence in business and strong commitment to the community. Chamber Member of the Year is given to that member, who through their efforts, has carried us to a new level of community service and impact. In 2015 we had two superstars. Pam Plummer, of Umpqua Bank, with her work leading the Business Development & Support and the Marketing & Communication Teams was co-winner with Rick Skinner, Knife River Materials. Rick was a leader in the Legislative Action team during the 2015 session and more. Six years ago a new tradition recognizing organizations that are critical to the success of our community began at the banquet. Unsung heroes of community service are your local service clubs. This year Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Soroptimists and Zonta were honored for their many accomplishments locally. Rick Wetherell and Tom Rumreich, were recognized as Co-Educators of the Year for 2015, by the Chamber’s Education Committee. The Prefontaine Memorial Committee Athletic Award, for 2015, was given to Cam Lucero of North Bend High School. What a great evening! Mark your calendars now for next year’s banquet scheduled for January 28, 2017.
