by Dr. Kelly Sutherland, University of Oregon
Information about speaker: Dr. Kelly Sutherland is an Assistant Professor of Biology with the University of Oregon’s Robert D. Clark Honors College, and the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology. She received her PhD in 2010 through a joint program in oceanography from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Her research focuses on the interactions between marine organisms and their fluid environments; often working at the intersection of biology and physics. She primarily studies zooplankton, with an emphasis on gelatinous organisms, using a variety of field and lab techniques to understand how these organisms experience their environment. The public is invited to hear Dr. Kelly Sutherland speak about her research on jellyfish and gelatinous zooplankton at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology on Wednesday, July 8th at 7pm. Her talk, titled “Are jellyfish taking over the oceans?”, will be held at the OIMB boathouse. Please park at OIMB or along Boat Basin Road and walk past the Coast Guard housing to the OIMB boathouse auditorium.
