CBPD release – UPDATE 1/4/24 4:30 p.m. – A North Bend man was arrested by the Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) on murder charges in relation to the homicide investigation and death of William Averill that began on December 12, 2023. The CBPD executed a search warrant at a residence off North Bay Rd. in North Bend on January 4th, 2024, around 10:30 a.m. The CBPD was assisted by the Oregon State Police (OSP), the Coos County Emergency Response Team, the Coos County Major Crimes Team, the Douglas County Emergency Response Team, and the South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team (SCINT). The execution of the search warrant led to the arrest of 30-year-old Kelton Dickens of North Bend, who is being held on charges of murder in the second degree.
