Coos Co. District Attorney R. Paul Frasier has filed charges of Attempted Murder against Todd C. Sanders following a residential arson fire in North Bend early Wednesday morning, Jan. 6. According to an entry on the NBPD log for 6:14 a.m., “trailer on fire, arson & attempted homicide. Suspect located by Police K9 and arrested.” Thirty-one year old Todd C. Sanders, Coquille, arrested on charges of Arson, Attempted Homicide, Burglary, Theft, and Reckless Endangering. “Subject transported to CCJ. Still currently under investigation.” Also at 6:14 a.m., but on the 2400 block of Clark St. and the 3100 block of Pine St., “stolen fuel tank from boat.” Two reports taken. And, at 7:01 a.m., 3600 block Ash St., “RP reported someone broke into residence, stole some shoes, unknown what else. RP advised there is blood on the floor and walls, report taken.” The three separate calls were all connected to the arson investigation. According to a news release from the DA, Sanders was charged with “1. Attempted Murder, alleging the victim to be Christopher Spanik; 2. Attempted Murder, alleging the victim to be Jennifer Barton; 3. Arson in the First Degree, alleging the defendant damaged protected property at 3257 Oak Street in North Bend by starting a fire; and 4. Burglary in the First Degree alleging that the burglary occurred in a dwelling located at 3620 Ash Street in North Bend. All of the offenses are alleged to have occurred on January 6, 2016.” Sanders appeared before Circuit Court Judge Martin Stone Thursday morning, Jan. 7. He was arraigned on the charges and “Security in the case was set at $500,000.” A public defender was appointed to represent Sanders and “the matter was continued to January 14, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. for further proceedings.”
