It’s springtime in the harbor seal world. That means baby seals will start appearing on Oregon’s beachfront and no, they are not stranded and in need of human assistance. The first reported “stranding” was aired Monday, April 13, on the North Oregon Coast at Seaside. A rescue team at the Seaside Aquarium affixed warning signs in the area to protect the pup. Mother harbor seals leave their babies on the beach or other ocean area while they swim for food. They will return. Anyone who spots a baby seal on the beach is asked to call the Oregon Marine Mammal Stranding Network hotline (541) 270-6830 so they can post signs near the pup warning humans to stay away.
