A young California Gray Whale washed up on a South Oregon Coast beach Thursday, July 17. Officials estimate the age of the whale at six-months and speculate that it got separated from its mother and was too young to care for itself. It was found dead at Bastendorff Beach, west of Charleston. Oregon State Park officials buried the 21-foot long calf in the sand. Mothers and calves are migrating north along the West Coast to the Feeding Grounds in the Gulf of Alaska.
