Southwestern Foundation’s art competition for high school students of Southern Oregon. Morgan Vineyard, a Bandon High School Senior, took home the ‘Best of Show’ award at VISION 2016, an annual high school art competition underwritten by the Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation. Vineyard’s submission, and acrylic titled “Key to Heart,” won her a two-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern along with a $250 cash-purchase award. Dayle Bivens, a Bandon High School Senior, was awarded ‘1st Place’ for her digital media work titled “Hayley Williams.” Bivens received a two-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern along with a $100 cash-purchase award. Sarah Sax, a junior from Pacific High School, took home the ‘2nd Place’ award for her photograph titled “Surfaces.” Sax received a $75 cash-purchase award along with a 2-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern. Sixteen other cash prizes ranging from $50 to $20 were awarded to grade division winners, grades 9 through 12. VISION 2016 consists of artwork from 13 southern Oregon high schools. The 85 works of art by 73 students on display in VISION 2016 came from the following high schools in alphabetical order: Bandon, Brookings-Harbor, Coquille, Glide, Gold Beach, Marshfield (in Coos Bay), Myrtle Point, North Bend, Oregon Virtual Academy (North Bend), Pacific (in Port Orford), Reedsport Community Charter School, Resource Link Homeschool and Winter Lake (in Bandon). Each year the Vision exhibition continues to present the talents of our regional high school art students. VISION 2016 is on display in the upstairs galleries at Coos Art Museum through April 9, 2016.
