Coquille Tribal release – Bass are bad for salmon populations, but they’re great for dinner! With that thought in mind, I’m sharing a fun announcement on behalf of the Port of Coquille River. The port has organized a $10,000 bass derby on July 16-17, with a goal of removing as many predatory bass from the Coquille River system as possible. Anglers have the chance to win cash prizes ranging from $50 to $1,000, if they catch fish that are tagged with identifying microchips. Unlike a typical catch-and-release fishing tournament, this event invites anglers to catch all the bass they can, and take them home to stock their freezers. Please help spread the word.
