The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Coos Bay District Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) will meet on Friday, March 7, 2014, to review proposals and recommend projects for funding under Title II of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act. Approximately $395,000 is available to implement natural resource restoration and maintenance projects that benefit federal lands in Coos, Curry, and Douglas Counties. The meeting will take place at the BLM office in North Bend, OR from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public is welcome to attend all portions of the meeting and address the RAC during the public comment period at approximately 11:00 a.m. The Coos Bay RAC is one of five committees established in western Oregon BLM districts that contain Oregon and California Grant Lands and Coos Bay Wagon Road lands. The RAC operates under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000, as reauthorized for one additional year as part of the 2013 Helium Stewardship Act. The committee members review project proposals and recommend their highest priorities for funding to the Secretary of Interior. The committee consists of eleven members representing varied interests and areas of expertise. County departments, watershed councils, forest protective associations and the BLM submitted twenty-six projects totaling $2.2 million to the RAC for stream restoration, law enforcement services, road maintenance, and youth corps projects.
