News release BLM. Guardrails will be going in along Bastendorff Beach Road and the three southern parking lots on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) managed land starting Monday, September 26. The work will take approximately four days. The Coos County Road Department and their contractor, Columbia River Contractors, will be installing the 1400 feet of guardrail with funding from the BLM. During construction, the BLM asks visitors to not park along Bastendorff Beach Road or within the three southern parking lots so the crew has plenty of space to complete the work. The large jetty parking lot will accommodate any displaced parking during the construction. The guardrail installation is part of the BLM’s continued efforts to improve conditions at the popular beach. The guardrails will be installed in locations that will help funnel traffic onto the designated driving routes, and prevent people from pulling vehicles off the road into areas closed to motorized use. Visitors may also notice a stockpile of large boulders in the jetty parking lot at Bastendorff Beach. The BLM will place the boulders this winter to close portions of the user created road network on the foredune. This work will also help direct traffic to the designated travel routes at Bastendorff Beach. The BLM analyzed and recommended the improvements as part of the 2011 Bastendorff Beach Cooperative Management Plan and 2012 Environmental Assessment.
