Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) responded to a fire on Blue Ridge around midnight on Thursday night, August 11. The fire was caused by a recreationist, but the specific cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire could be seen as far away as Elk Ridge and Edson Butte and burned 2/3 of an acre in a previously thinned timber stand. Firefighters worked through the night to catch the fire and crews will be busy throughout the day mopping up the fire. Public use restrictions are in place across southern Oregon to help prevent fires caused from chainsaw use, campfires, smoking, and driving on unimproved roads. Fires like this one can be easily prevented if people follow these prevention guidelines. For more information on fires and closures visit CFPA on the web at www.coosfpa.net, follow us on Facebook and Twitter, or call the closure line 541-267-1789.
