COOS BAY, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Miller’s Madness Trail on Blue Ridge is temporarily inaccessible due to logging activity in the area. The Blue Ridge Trail System is located 10 miles east of Coos Bay. To protect visitor safety, the logging contractor has signed the road system around the 2.7-mile trail to indicate active harvest in the area. Visitors can still access the other 10 miles of trail that makes up the Blue Ridge Trail System. The BLM timber sale, named ‘Beam Me Up’, involves cutting a four-acre strip of trees to allow clear signals from the radio tower located on top of Blue Ridge. The radio tower is a vital component of emergency communications for the Coos County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies in the area. The logging is expected to last approximately two weeks. The logging contractor will remove timber debris and ensure the trail is ready for hikers and mountain bike riders once harvesting is complete. For additional information, please contact BLM’s Coos Bay District Office at (541) 756-0100.
