The Oregon State Marine Board’s Boat Oregon Advisory Teams (BOATs) will be meeting independently from November 3 through November 5, at the Marine Board office, 435 Commercial St. NE, in Salem. All three meetings are scheduled for 9 am to 2 pm. The public is invited to attend and free parking is available. The four teams, Outdoor Sportsmen, Watersports, Cruisers, and a newly formed, Non-Motorized team are comprised of members of the boating public who advise OSMB staff on statewide issues. Each team specifically addresses issues related to their boating activity with a goal of finding common ground, proactive solutions, and developing initiatives agency staff can implement to improve boating opportunities for all users. Recommendations from these teams are brought forward to the Marine Board for further consideration. “We’re open to all ideas and no issue is off the table,” says Scott Brewen, Director for the Marine Board. “Over the last year, these teams have come up with their unique perspectives to assist us with working through some of our challenges on Oregon’s waterways. In the coming year, they will be an integral part of our next strategic planning process as they help us determine priorities for the next six years.” The Cruiser BOAT will meet on November 3, Outdoor Sportsmen on November 4, and Watersports on November 5. A meeting is scheduled for the Non-Motorized BOAT on December 1. To view the agendas, visit http://www.oregon.gov/OSMB/Pages/BoatOregonAdvisoryTeams.aspx.
