Bomb Threat at Coos Co. Courthouse, April 7

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 04/06/2015 at about 08:38 AM, Coos County 911 Center in Coquille received a call on a 911 line from an unidentified male caller stating he “had placed 2 bombs in the Coos County Courthouse…”. Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies, Coquille Police and EMS crews responded and evacuated the Courthouse. A number of the courts were open and in session and had to be evacuated, with eventually all offices of the courthouse being evacuated. The call was only specific to the Courthouse and no other county buildings were affected. While police personnel cleared the building many of the Courthouse staff and public had to wait outside in the rain. The Courthouse was eventually cleared and open back up to the public at 9:15 AM. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation in to the call and did learn that the call was made from a track phone using the number of (541)252-5543. The call was plotted to the area of Newmark and Norman, or Wallace Street in the Empire area of Coos Bay as to where the person was when making the call. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office has sought the assistance of the FBI in tracking the cell phone number of the phone caller. We are also seeking the public’s assistance in trying to identify the owner of the track phone and cell number. Any person with information is encouraged to contact the Coos County Sheriff’s Office with information at (541)396-2016.
