Break This Jar for Coos Art Museum, June 18

On June 21 at 2PM Coos Art Museum will be hosting a very unusual event and fundraiser. We are conducting a drawing to choose someone to drop a jar for the museum. The person selected by a drawing will have the opportunity to break the jar and achieve instantaneous social media fame on YouTube as the act is recorded. That person will also be able to keep the contents of the jar – $200.  The drawing for “Break This Jar for Coos Art Museum” continues through Wednesday June 18 at which time the designated jar breaker will be selected. Tickets are $5.00 each and can be purchased through Coos Art Museum, 541-267-3901. Enter as many times as you wish. One need not be present to win this opportunity and can designate a friend or museum staffer to break the jar in your name.  Robert Canaga, juror for the current Expressions West exhibition at the museum, was inspired by the recent controversy of the art piece Ai Weiwei: Dropping the Urn, in which the famous Chinese artist/activist destroys ancient ceramic works from China.  In response he painted Falling Jar now on view at the Coos Art Museum and arranged for this unusual event. All proceeds from the event go to help Coos Art Museum.
