Bridge project begins Tues. night in southbound lanes, May 25

ROGUE RIVER – Southbound late night I-5 traffic will detour beginning next week due to bridge work between Gold Hill and Rogue River. Beginning Tuesday night, May 26 through Thursday night, southbound I-5 traffic will detour at Exit 48, Rogue River onto Oregon 99 (Rogue River Highway) to Exit 45A. The detour will be in place so a contractor can repair the deck surfaces on the two southbound bridges over both the Rogue River and nearby Rogue River Highway. Northbound traffic will remain on I-5 – All southbound traffic will be detoured from 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights. I-5 southbound drivers should expect single lane closures through the work zone about an hour before and after the full detour time. After next week, the detour dates will change to Sunday through Thursday nights. When the southbound bridge work is complete, work will begin on the northbound bridges and detours will be in place between Exits 45 and 48, also detouring onto Rogue River Highway. ODOT considered the option of making the repairs without closures, but determined work crews would be unsafe with traffic so close. Traffic bound for Valley of the Rogue Rest Area-State Park should follow detour signs.
