USCG release – NORTH BEND, Ore. — A Coast Guard law enforcement team assisted an injured woman and are investigating the circumstances surrounding a commercial fisherman allegedly boating under the influence 12 miles off the Oregon Coast, Friday morning, Aug. 17. A Coast Guard boat crew and law enforcement team aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Station Umpqua River removed the woman, reportedly suffering from a head laceration, bruising and swelling in the facial region, off the commercial fishing vessel Pescadero and transferred her to emergency medical services awaiting at Station Umpqua River, which transported her to Lower Umpqua River Hospital. The boat crew and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Sector North Bend were led to the location of the fishing vessel Pescadero after watchstanders from the Coast Guard 13th District followed an anonymous tip from an individual and used cell phone forensics to reach out to the injured woman and get a latitude and longitude position. A subsequent boarding was conducted and the Coast Guard terminated the vessel’s voyage. The fishing vessel was towed into port by the MLB crew as the boarding team remained aboard. “The incident is under investigation and all appropriate criminal or other options will be looked at,” said Capt. Olav Saboe, commander, Sector North Bend. “We take our search and rescue and law enforcement responsibilities very seriously.” The fishing vessel Pescadero has a reported 150 to 200 fish on board.
