News release Newport PD.  On September 6, 2016, Newport Police Officer Humphreys began to conduct an investigation of a residential burglary that was believed to have occurred on September 1, 2016. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect entered the home and stole more than $3,600 in cash, collectible coins, and various electronic items. On September 10, 2016, Detective Cummings recovered a stolen camera from this burglary at a local area pawn shop. Kristopher Arthur Jones, age 24 of Siletz, was identified as a person of interest. Officer Humphreys continued the investigation with this new lead in the case, and established probable cause for Jones’ arrest. On November 17, 2016, Jones was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on unrelated burglary charges following a traffic stop by the Toledo Police Department. On November 18, 2016, the charges from the Newport burglary were added. Jones received two additional charges of Theft 1st Degree, and Burglary 1st Degree. His bail amount for the Newport case was set at $200,000.
