Burglar enters Occupied Home, August 4

Oregon State Police (OSP) arrested a Rogue River man Saturday afternoon after he entered an occupied residence and acted aggressively toward the homeowner east of Grants Pass. The man was arrested after he fled the home as OSP arrived on scene.  On August 2, 2014 at approximately 5:04 p.m., OSP Southern Command Center dispatch received a report of an unknown man on property in the 5100 block of Averill Drive between Grants Pass and Rogue River. The man reportedly entered a vehicle on the property and then broke into the residence occupied by adults and juveniles. While inside, the man, who the owner said they didn’t know, was acting erratically and throwing items.  As an OSP trooper arrived on scene, the man, identified as BRIAN WHITTON, age 47, from Rogue River, fled the residence toward a river and was taken into custody about 5:30 p.m.  WHITTON was transported to the Josephine County jail, but while enroute he attempted to kick the OSP patrol car windows out before being restrained further by officers. He was lodged in the jail for Burglary in the First Degree and Probation Violation, after his probation officer authorized a detainer hold to keep him in custody at the jail.
