Buried & Submerged Forests
Southwestern Oregon Community College’s Geology Lecture Series continues on Saturday, November 9th at 7:00 pm with “Buried and Submerged Forests: Time Capsules with Secrets of Past Earthquakes and Volcanic Eruptions” by Patrick Pringle.  This free lecture is at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the SWOCC campus and is open to all members of the community.  Pat Pringle is a member of the faculty at Centralia College in Washington. Pat earned BS and MS degrees from the University of Akron.  He worked for the USGS at the Cascade Volcano Observatory and the Washington DNR prior to joining the faculty at Centralia College.  Pat has been an active lecturer and field trip leader throughout his career.  Among his numerous research publications, two with wide public distribution are  Roadside Geology of Mount St. Helens and Roadside Geology of Mount Rainier (a best guidebook award winner).  Much of his current research is associated with the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust Partners in Science Grant program which involves collaboration between college and high school faculty.  All of the talks are free and start at 7:00 pm in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the SWOCC Campus.   Continuing sponsors of the lecture series include Oregon Resources Corporation, the SWOCC Foundation and the College.
