Oregon Employment Dept. report – Westside Local, a restaurant, opened in Redmond. Dollar General will open a store in John Day. Gathered Bakeshop and Market opened in Astoria. It offers baked goods, local produce, and groceries. Heather Sherman LCSW, a counseling practice, opened in Estacada. Pioneer Pacific College and the Oregon Culinary Arts Institute will close permanently due to COVID-19, laying off 39 people in Beaverton, 41 in Portland, and 51 in Springfield. The City of Medford plans to lay off a dozen workers and freeze hiring for a number of vacant positions due to an anticipated drop in revenue because of COVID-19. Stratacache, a digital sign maker, will open a production facility at the former Hynix semiconductor plant in Eugene next year. It plans to hire several hundred workers.
