Charleston Fire District responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Cape Arago Highway at the intersection of Cape Arago Highway and Wildahl Lane on Saturday December 28, 2013 at approximately 0823 hours. Units arrived to find a newer Mazda Protégé’ vs a Peterbuilt conventional tractor trailer. The driver of the truck refused transport, Charleston units with the assistance of Coos Bay Fire & Rescue and Bay Cities Ambulance extricated the driver of the Mazda, a minor riding in the Mazda was able to get out of the car without extrication. Oregon State Police is investigating the crash. Oregon Department of Transportation crews took over traffic control upon their arrival after a special request for assistance. The occupants of the Mazda were transported to Bay Area hospital for injuries received. Crews were on scene for approximately 1.5 hours.
