A 19-year old Woodburn male drowned at Cape Kiwanda on the North Oregon Coast Sunday, February 28. David Lopez is the fifth person to die in eight months at the Cape. According to authorities, three actually fell in the water, but two made it back to shore. Lopez did not. A U.S. Coast Guard crew recovered him from the water, but he was pronounced deceased on the beach. Earlier this month, a 17-year old female from Marysville, WA also fell into the ocean at Cape Kiwanda, but her body has not been recovered. The two went around a fence to climb in an area known as the Punch Bowl.
