Carjacking, Lane Co., Aug. 30

LCSO release – On 08/26/21 at about 9:45pm Lane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a carjacking that had just occurred in the parking lot of a business located in the 86000blk of Franklin Blvd. Employees reported that a male, later identified as 52 year old Mitchel Vincent Orlando, arrived at the location and started looking into parked vehicles. An employee confronted Orlando at which time Orlando produced a handgun and pointed it at the employee. Orlando demanded the employee’s vehicle and sped away in it.
Area residents reported moments later that Orlando had parked the stolen truck and departed on foot. Lane County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Oregon State Police Troopers and Eugene Police Officers responded to the area and began searching for Orlando. He was located hiding in some brush still in possession of the involved firearm. He was taken into custody with the assistance of a Police K9. Orlando was also linked to an armed car-jacking that occurred earlier in Cottage Grove. The vehicle stolen in that incident was located by deputies close by. Orlando was lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges including 1st Degree Robbery, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Vehicle, Unlawful Entry into a Vehicle and Menacing.
