In August, Coos Bay Police Officers made four impaired driving arrests. In two of the cases, the drivers were suspected to be under the influence of a controlled substance. One case was initially reported as a dispute in progress and when officers arrived to investigate, they found the driver of a motorcycle was under the influence of a controlled substance, and subsequently arrested him for DUII. During another case, a man crashed his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, then called 911 reporting that someone had crashed into his parked car in an attempt to cover up the crime. The man was ultimately arrested for DUII, reckless driving and initiating a false report. The third case resulted from a traffic stop after the officer observed poor driving. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. The final case occurred when a young man who was intoxicated drove away from a local bar against the advise of others. The young man crashed his vehicle on Ocean Blvd shortly after leaving the bar. Although the man initially denied driving his vehicle when the crash occurred, evidence collected at the crash scene, and the bar showed that the man was in fact the driver. He was taken into custody for DUII and reckless driving. The Coos Bay Police Department will continue with saturation traffic enforcement activities during the month of September.
