The City of Coos Bay and the Coos Bay Fire Department sent a special “just in time for Christmas” gift of a fire truck to the Idanha-Detroit Rural Fire Protection District southeast of Salem. The District had been devastated by last Summer’s Beachie Creek Fire. The District lost its equipment during the wildfire that consumed 90% of the homes and businesses in the Idanha/Detroit area. Coos Bay came to the rescue by donating a 1994 fire engine that had been deemed surplus. The Coos Bay City Council approved the gifting of the truck and Fire Chief Mark Anderson drove it to its new home Dec. 18th. Idanha/Detroit RFD Chief Will Ewing said the donated engine is the newest in their fleet.
