News release CBFD. The City of Coos Bay and the Coos Bay Fire Department are participating in Fire Prevention Week through October 15th. During the week, the Coos Bay Fire Department has been spreading this year’s fire safety message – “Don’t Wait, Check the Date”. Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years even if they are tested monthly because the sensors in smoke alarms can become less effective over time. Smoke alarms are such an important part of fire safety that this is the third year in a row that the National Fire Protection Association is pushing a smoke alarm based message with the 2014 message being “Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month”, and the 2015 message being “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep”. We would like to invite everyone to our open house to celebrate Fire Prevention Week. The Open House will be held at Station No. 1, 450 Elrod Avenue from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on October 12th. There will be free food, games for kids, and lots of fire prevention and fire safety information. The Coos Bay Fire Department will also be answering questions that you may have. The City of Coos Bay and the Coos Bay Fire Department are committed to keeping the community safe. Please check our website and watch for announcements for future training opportunities on fire safety, CPR, and disaster preparedness. If you have questions, please call the Coos Bay Fire Department at 541-269-1191.
