Elude
News release CBPD. A North Bend man wanted on felony warrants out of the US Marshall’s Office, and Douglas County SO was taken into custody after he attempted to flee from Coos Bay Police Officers in a vehicle. On 08/14/17 at around 10:50 AM a Coos Bay Police Officer working overtime on a pedestrian safety operation at 8th and Central attempted to stop a grey 96 Dodge pickup after the driver was observed talking on his cell phone. The male operator accelerated and attempted to flee from the officer in his vehicle. Another Officer saw the operator and recognized that he was a man that was wanted on a felony warrant out of the US Marshall’s Office. The operator identified as Ace H. Graves DOB: 08/11/83 led police in a high speed pursuit through Coos Bay and into the Bunker Hill area. The police deployed tac strips and Mr. Graves continued to flee from the police. Mr. Graves turned onto Harriet Road and crashed into a pickup parked in front of Coast Pools and Spas. Mr. Graves left his pickup and continued fleeing from officers on foot. Graves was apprehended moments later in a car port at a residence near Cityview and Harriet. Graves sustained some abrasion injuries to both knees as as he fled from police and was taken into custody. There were no other injuries to anyone else involved. Mr. Graves was carrying a bb gun that looked identical to a semi automatic handgun at the time of his arrest. The US Marshall’s Warrant issued for Graves was for Probation violation on the original charge of counterfeiting. A Douglas County SO Warrant issued for Graves was for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and resisting arrest. As a result of this incident, Mr. Graves is additionally being charged with eluding in a vehicle, eluding on foot, escape 3, reckless driving, fail to perform the duties of a driver involving property damage, interfering with police, and resisting arrest. The vehicle operated by Mr. Graves was impounded. The investigation is continuing.
