Officers from the Coos Bay Police Department will join law enforcement agencies throughout Oregon in a Safety Belt Enforcement Campaign from August 25th to September 7th. This is the third of three scheduled safety belt and traffic safety campaigns for 2014. The focus of the program is to increase public awareness of the seatbelt laws with the goal of reducing traffic injuries and deaths. According to a news release, “Members from the Coos Bay Police Department will take to the road during this campaign with an emphasis on seatbelts, use and proper fit of child safety seat as well as drivers who are speeding or using their cell phone (distracted driving). As always, officers will look for operators who are driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.”
