CBPS Teacher Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges, Feb. 15

CBPD release – The Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) arrested a Marshfield High School (MHS) teacher on sex abuse charges. On February 7, 2024, the CBPD began an investigation after receiving a report that a MHS teacher had been sexually abusing a MHS student. The teacher was identified as 45-year-old Jeremy Burgher of Coos Bay. Mr. Burgher was immediately removed from the MHS campus and placed on administrative leave by the Coos Bay School District (CBSD). On February 14, 2024, the CBPD arrested Mr. Burgher on the following criminal charges: • 5 Counts of Sex Abuse in the Second Degree; • Official Misconduct in the First Degree; • Luring a Minor. The CBSD states that although personnel policies and legal issues prevent us from going into specifics, our first goal is to keep our students safe, and we have no tolerance for behaviors that endanger young people.
