Pursuit/Libby Lane

Summary: Pursuit Through Residential Neighborhood Leads to Coos County Waman’s Arrest. On December 10th, 2023, around 9:45 pm, Deputy B. Freerksen was patrolling the Charleston area of Coos County when he observed a blue Ford F-250 run a stop sign next to Davey Jones Locker. The truck was turning onto Cape Arago Highway heading toward Coos Bay. Deputy Freerksen followed the vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over on Libby Lane near Crown Point Road using his emergency lights and siren. The driver, later identified as Lanie Denton (26), failed to stop and took Deputy Freerksen on a pursuit through a residential area in Barview going up to speeds of 50 MPH. The pursuit went through areas of Wallace Road, Caraway Lane, South Spring Road, Shell Lane, South Barview Road, Hollywood Lane, Travis Lane, Cape Arago Highway, Wilshire Lane, and Sand Dollar Lane. During the pursuit, Ms. Denton struck a parked vehicle and continued with her attempt to get away. The pursuit was ended safely by Deputy Freerksen after Ms. Denton tried to maneuver off of a property but failed to shift gears correctly. Deputy Freerksen blocked her in and ordered her out of the vehicle. Ms. Denton was arrested for Felony Elude, Hit and Run, and Reckless Driving. Additionally, Ms. Denton is on Felony Probation and her actions resulted in her Probation Officer issuing a hold for a Probation Violation. Ms. Denton was transported to the Coos County Jail where she remains in custody.

Child Abuse, Cape Arago Hwy.
Date / Time: December 8th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.; Case Number(s): 2023-00035220; Classification: Criminal Mistreatment I, Assault III, Strangulation; Location: Plainview R.V. Park, Cape Arago Hwy; Suspect(s): Hudgeon, Travis S. (31). Coos Bay man arrested after the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report of child abuse. On December 8th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report via phone of possible child abuse that occurred at the Plainview R.V. Park, located at 91904 Cape Arago Hwy. The reporting party stated the victim, a (5) year old child, had been transported to the Bay Area Hospital for treatment of injuries. Deputy S. Starr responded to Bay Area Hospital and conducted an extensive investigation into the incident. The suspect was identified as a parental guardian of the child, Travis S. Hudgeon (31) of Coos Bay. As a result of Deputy Starr’s investigation, Mr. Hudgeon was arrested on the charges of Criminal Mistreatment I, Assault III, and Strangulation. Travis S. Hudgeon (31) was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.

Felon in Possession of Firearm
CCSO release – Date / Time: December 8, 2023 at 630 a.m.; Case Number(s): 2023-00035098; Classification: Felon in Possession of Firearm, Criminal Trespass II; Location: Sunset Bay Golf Course 89515 Cape Arago Hwy, Coos Bay, Oregon; Suspect(s): Green, James H. (65); Man caught on trail camera trespassing on property has a search warrant served on his residence and is arrested on charges of felon in possession of a firearm and criminal trespass II. On November 26th, 2023, the Sunset Bay Golf Course owner located at 89515 Cape Arago Hwy contacted the Coos County Sheriff’s Office to report his trail camera took an image of an armed trespasser on his property. Sgt. A. Slater conducted an investigation, leading him to apply for a search warrant to search the property at 91061 Cape Arago Hwy. The warrant was granted and subsequently executed by the Coos County Emergency Response Team (ERT) on December 8th at 6:30 a.m. The suspect, who had previously trespassed armed, was identified as James H. Green (65) of Charleston. Mr. Green was questioned, and (4) firearms were seized from his residence, including the rifle Mr. Green was in possession of on November 26th. James H. Green (65) was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked on charges of Criminal Trespass II and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
