Attempt to Elude, Coos to Curry
CCSO release – Date / Time: January 27, 2024 12:47 a.m.; Case Number(s): 2024-00002179; Classification: Elude by Vehicle, Elude by foot, Reckless Driving, Warrant Service; Location: Coos & Curry Counties; Suspect(s): Clarissa M. Castro. Woman leads Sheriff’s Deputies on pursuit to Curry County. On January 27th, 2024, at 12:47 a.m., Sgt. A. Slater was on duty patrolling Seven Devils near Bandon. Sgt. Slater observed a suspicious vehicle sitting just outside Bandon Dunes Employee Housing. A single female occupied the car. The black Cadillac sedan had no plates or identification tags. Sgt. Slater attempted to contact the female as it was not a normal place to be parked at any time of the day or night. The woman drove away from Sgt. Slater at a high rate of speed, avoiding contact. Sgt. Slater attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle, which failed to yield. Sgt. Slater initiated a pursuit of the black Cadillac southbound on U.S. Hwy 101. Bandon Police attempted to deploy stop sticks just south of Bandon without success. The pursuit continued southbound on Hwy 101 to Port Orford, where Port Orford Police again tried to deploy stop sticks. The vehicle’s driver, Clarissa M. Castro (27), ultimately avoided the stop sticks but crashed over an embankment in Port Orford on Oregon Street. Ms. Castro fled on foot, and Sheriff’s Office K9 Cena tracked her for approximately 150 yards in 60 – 70 mph wind gusts. Cena located Ms. Castro hiding in the beach grass. Ms. Castro was taken into custody and began to complain of injuries sustained from the crash. Ms. Castro was released to the Ambulance to have her medically evaluated. Ms. Castrol had a valid warrant for her arrest and is being referred to the Coos County D.A.’s Office on the additional charges of Elude by Vehicle, Elude by foot, & Reckless Driving. —UPDATE— Saturday morning, Jan. 27, Mast Brothers Towing was able to recover the vehicle operated by Clarissa M. Castro (27) during the pursuit this morning. Inside the vehicle the following was located. Glock 19 Pistol fully loaded; A Stun Gun; (30) M30 pills or (Fentanyl); Methamphetamine; A loaded syringe with Heroin; Ms. Castro is being charged additionally with Felon in possession of a firearm, Felon in possession of a restricted weapon and various drug charges.
Warrant Service, Hauser
CCSO release – Date / Time: January 25th, 2024, 11:54 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2024-00002073; Classification: Warrant Service; Location: Hwy 101, Hauser Oregon; Suspect(s): Christine M. Saxon (25); Woman arrested near Hauser after calling 911 to report suspicious circumstances. On January 25th, 2024, at 11:54 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a woman reporting she was being chased. The woman, identified as Christine M. Saxon (25), told dispatchers she would wait for the responding deputy at a picnic table outside an ATV rental store near Hauser just off U.S. Hwy 101. Deputy S. Starr and a Reedsport P.D. Unit in transit to work responded to the location. Deputy Starr’s investigation revealed the woman was not being chased and that she was under the influence. A record check revealed Christine M. Saxon (25) had an active felony warrant for her arrest. Deputy Starr arrested Ms. Saxon on the outstanding warrant and transported her to the Coos County Jail, where she was booked and remains in custody.
Attempt to Elude
CCSO release – Date / Time: January 27, 2024 9:27 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2024-00002265; Classification: Elude by Vehicle, Elude by Foot, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, DUII; Location: Bear Creek, Bandon, Oregon; Suspect(s): Aaron C. Dawson (28). A deputy attempts a traffic stop of a vehicle going 103 mph. The driver was arrested on several charges after a short vehicle chase and subsequent K9 track. On January 27, 2024, at 9:27 p.m., Deputy H. Francis was patrolling on U.S. Hwy 42 S near Bandon, Oregon. Deputy Francis checked a car on vehicle-mounted radar at 103 mph and turned around to attempt a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield, and a short pursuit ensued onto Bear Creek Lane. The driver, Aaron C. Dawson (28) of Bandon, ditched the car near milepost two and fled on foot. Coos County Sheriff’s K9 Cena was called to the scene to conduct a criminal apprehension track for Mr. Dawson. After tracking a short distance, K9 Cena located Mr. Dawson curled up in a creek under thick blackberry bushes. Mr. Dawson was taken into custody. Aaron C. Dawson was transported to the Coos County Jail on the charges of Elude by Vehicle, Elude by Foot, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, and DUII. Mr. Dawson was booked and remains in custody.
Elude, Bunker Hill
CCSO release – Date / Time: January 27, 2024, 3:51 p.m.; Classification: Request Assistance with Identification; Location: Bay Park Lane, Coos Bay. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office requests the public’s help identifying a man and vehicle that eluded a Deputy on January 27th at 3:51 p.m. on Bay Park Lane just south of Coos Bay. On January 27, 2024, at 3:51 p.m., Deputy M.R. Smith attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a light gray BMW SUV with a smoky cover over the license plate on Bay Park Lane after the vehicle nearly struck Deputy M.R. Smith’s patrol vehicle. The vehicle stopped briefly, with a man getting partially out of the vehicle. The man returned to the car and successfully eluded Deputy M.R. Smith in his patrol pick-up. Water Rescue, Arago
CCSO release – Date / Time: January 25th, 2024 at 5:50 a.m.; Case Number(s): 2024-00002001; Classification: Water Rescue; Location: Arago Fishtrap Road. Woman disregards high water signs and becomes stranded on a flooded road. On January 25th, 2024, at 5:50 a.m. Marine Deputy R. Baker was called out to assist a motorist who drove into floodwaters covering Arago-Fishtrap Road. Deputy Baker entered the flood waters and rescued the woman from her flooded vehicle. Several instances have occurred this winter of individuals entering flooded areas and becoming stranded. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office implores drivers not to enter flooded areas for their safety and the safety of first responders.
