Murder Charge in Portland
CCSO release – The Coos County Sheriff’s Office has received some inquiries about the tragic event in Portland, which occurred Sunday, April 9th involving Murder II charges brought against Moses Lopez (30) of Portland, Oregon. Mr. Lopez was arrested in Coos County on April 3rd on unrelated charges and released from the Coos County Jail per Senate Bill 48 requirements. Please see below for the conditions of release for 30-year-old Moses Lopez. On April 3rd, 2023, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office booked Mr. Lopez on the charges of Disorderly Conduct II, Criminal Trespass II, Unlawful use of a weapon x II, and menacing pursuant to his arrest by the North Bend Police Department. According to SB48, his alleged crimes fell into categories 1 and 2. Lopez’s conditions of release included a no-contact with the victim and location of the alleged crimes, no possession of firearms, weapons, ammunition, or other deadly weapons, and a court appearance date he subsequently missed, for which a felony warrant was issued. Oregon Legislative Assembly enacted Oregon Laws 2021, Chapter 643 (Senate Bill 48) in 2021 to “reduce the reliance on security release and provide statewide guidance for local pretrial release” The Bill was codified into ORS 135.233, which enters a “standing pretrial release order” for specific crimes, categorized below: Subject to release on own recognizance; Subject to release with special conditions of release; and Not eligible for release until arraignment. Upon his release, Lopez absconded from our jurisdiction and is a suspect in heinous crimes in Multnomah County.
