CCSO release – Date / Time: April 25th, 2023 at 1:50 p.m.; Case Number(s): S23-03070; Classification: Traffic stop (Citations) / Probation Violation; Location: Downtown Coos Bay, Oregon; Suspect(s): Jayson Bridges (46); Man arrested in Coos Bay on Probation Violation after attempting to flee from Deputy in a vehicle. On April 25th, 2023, at 1:50 p.m., Deputy Z. Smith was patrolling in Coos Bay when he observed Jayson Bridges (46) driving a car in downtown Coos Bay. Deputy Z. Smith knew, from previous contacts, that Mr. Bridges’ driving status was suspended. Deputy Z. Smith ran to his patrol vehicle and attempted to catch up to Mr. Bridges, who attempted to elude from him down an alleyway; in which Deputy Z. Smith located and attempted to stop Mr. Bridges on the other end of the alley. Mr. Bridges saw Deputy Z. Smith, and instead of stopping the vehicle, Mr. Bridges placed the car in reverse, backing it back down the alley in an unsafe manner at a high rate of speed. Deputy Z. Smith ran after the vehicle on foot, repeatedly telling Mr. Bridges to stop the car. Deputy Z. Smith detained Mr. Bridges in the parking lot of Les Schwab in Coos Bay. Deputy Z. Smith issued Mr. Bridges several traffic citations for driving while suspended violation, driving uninsured and careless driving. Deputy Z. Smith contacted Mr. Bridges Probation Officer, who placed a Detainer on Mr. Bridges due to his conduct with Deputy Z. Smith. As a result, Mr. Bridges was arrested on the Probation Violation Detainer and transported to the Reedsport Police Department Jail, where he is currently in custody.
