CCSO release – Dunes Deputy recognizes a young rider for following riding rules in the O.D.N.R.A. On April 5, 2024, Deputy A. Churchill observed a young motorcycle rider operating safely and following his Mom & Dad’s directions while patrolling the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Deputy Churchill contacted 7-year-old Jacob Long, who had all the required equipment on and was operating within regulations. Jacob told Deputy Churchill he wants to ride motorcycles professionally and is in first place in his junior division motorcycle club. Deputy Churchill gave Jacob a Coos County Sheriff’s Office Contracts challenge coin for operating safely and following regulations and wished him luck on his future riding goals. Jason, Amanda, and Jacob thoroughly enjoyed meeting Deputy Churchill.
Warrant Arrest
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 5th, 2024, 1:55 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2024-00008041; Classification: Warrant Service; Location: Myrtlewood Lane / East Bay Road; Suspect(s): Andrew Jones (31); Deputy makes traffic stop and arrests driver on outstanding warrant. On April 5th, 2024, at 1:55 p.m., Deputy H. Francis conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on East Bay Road near Myrtlewood Lane east of Coos Bay for several traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle, Andrew Jones (31), was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was driving suspended. After an investigation, Mr. Jones was arrested on the outstanding warrant and transported to the Coos County Jail, where he remains in custody. The vehicle was released to a licensed driver.
Derelict Vessels
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 4th 2024; Classification: Civil Posting; Location: On Coos Bay. El Conquistador and Lela posted for seizure and removal by Coos County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division on behalf of the Department of State Lands. On April 4th, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, Deputies Baker and Gray, on behalf of DSL (Department of State Lands), posted a pre-seizure notice on two vessels, the El Conquistador and the Lela. Both vessels must be moved from their current location to a location they are legally allowed to be at on or before May 16, 2024. If the vessels are not moved by this time, DSL will seize both ships and begin the process of getting them removed from the area. This is due to recent vessel inspections and a joint investigation by the Department of State Lands, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Coast Guard. The El Conquistador and the Lela are both in a non-operable state and considered derelict ships.
