Male arrested on animal abuse charges after allegedly punching & choking his dog. On April 2nd, 2024, at approximately 10:10 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received an Animal Complaint alleging animal abuse by its owner. The caller reported a dog had been punched, kicked, and choked. Deputy Z. Smith responded to and contacted the dog owner, Tracy E. Tanner (30). After an investigation, Tracy was arrested on charges of Animal Abuse and Neglect. Tracy was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and later released on his own recognizance.
Motorist Assist, Hwy. 101
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 8th, 2024, 6:20 p.m., Classification: Motorist assist, Location: Hwy 101 / Mile post 241, •••Deputy Assists Travelers with Flat Tire•••. On April 8th, 2024, at 6:20 p.m., Deputy B. Freerksen located a disabled vehicle on Highway 101 at mile marker 241. The SUV had hit a nail in the road and the occupants couldn’t get the tire off. Deputy Freerksen assisted the travelers and successfully changed the tire with the vehicle spare. The occupants were able to return to the road and safely continue to their destination. Unexpended Flare Found, Burnt Mtn.
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 8th, Classification: Found Item, Location: Burnt Mountain. Unexpended USAF IR Flare located in the Burnt Mountain area of Coos County. On April 8th, 2024, a concerned citizen brought a silver brick-type object to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office for disposal. On the outside was printed Warning – USAF IR Flare Explosive / Highly Flammable. The citizen reportedly found the items in the Burnt Mountain area of Coos County. Upon further research, Sgt. S. Moore discovered this was a U.S. Air Force countermeasure flare that did not ignite after being expelled from a military aircraft, probably during a training mission. Sgt. Moore contacted the 142nd Oregon Air Guard EOD unit in Portland. On April 9th, two members of the Explosives Ordinance Division (EOD) unit responded to our area and disposed of the flare at a safe location. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that if they find such items, please leave them in place and contact the authorities so they can be properly handled and disposed of.

Sucec (39) was sentenced to 30 months in prison for methamphetamine possession. On April 10th, Nicholas B. Sucec (39) was sentenced to 30 months in prison on the charges below. Deputy District Attorney J. Blanc offered Mr. Sucec the plea agreement on behalf of the D.A.’s Office after Mr. Sucec was found to be in possession of over 10 grams of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest. 24CR14535 – Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, 30 Months; 24CR01396 – Giving False Information to a Police Officer, 6 Months (Concurrent w/24CR14535).
