Burglary Investigation, Golf Course Lane, North Bend
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 7, 2023, at 7:10 a.m.; Case Number(s): S23-07574; Classification: Warrant Arrest / Criminal Trespass / Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine (Burglary investigation continuing); Location: Golf Course Lane, North Bend, Oregon 97459; Suspect(s): Jonathan L. Baron (34) / Alica M. Tate (27); Potential suspects were identified in burglary case from surveillance cameras. On March 31st, 2023, Deputy Mong from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a burglary that occurred on Golf Course Lane, east of North Bend. During the investigation, a suspect vehicle was identified from surveillance cameras at the residence. On April 7, 2023, at 7:10 a.m. Deputy M.R. Smith located the suspect vehicle in Coos Bay, recognizing it from the surveillance photos shared internally with law enforcement. During contact with the car, two suspects in the aforementioned burglary were identified as Jonathan L. Baron (34) and Alica M. Tate (27), both of Coos Bay. During the investigation, it was learned that Mr. Baron had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and admitted to previously being on the property located on Golf Course Lane; however, he denied stealing any items. A large “Rock” of methamphetamine was also seized from Mr. Baron’s possession. Mr. Baron was arrested on the outstanding warrant for his arrest and charged with criminal trespass and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Mr. Baron was also cited for driving while suspended. Mr. Baron was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he is currently in custody. Ms. Tate was released from the scene. An investigation into the burglary is ongoing. Attempt To Elude, Hauser
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 7, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.; Case Number(s): S23-07579; Classification: Attempted Assault II / Elude by Vehicle / Elude by Foot / Reckless Endangering x2 / Reckless Driving; Location: Hauser, Oregon; Suspect(s): Hulen, Matthew D. (23). Man tracked by K9 Cena and arrested after eluding police in a stolen vehicle. On April 7, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received information that Reedsport Police were involved in a vehicle pursuit with a silver Ford Mustang. Dispatch further relayed that the chase began in the Florence area. After receiving this information, Sgt. Slater from the Sheriff’s Office responded to the north county line with “Stop sticks” to assist in ending this dangerous chase. While en-route, dispatch advised Reedsport Police had lost sight of the vehicle. A short time later, an Oregon State Police Trooper observed the vehicle turn onto Wildwood Road in Hauser from the south entrance. The Trooper followed the car (not in pursuit) to where it entered Ocean Pines, R.V. Park. Sgt. Slater responded to the R.V. Park and observed the silver Mustang attempting to exit the park. The Trooper placed out, “Stop sicks,” at the park entrance and was nearly struck by the vehicle’s driver as it accelerated around the obstacle. The “Stop Sticks” made contact with the right front tire. Sgt. Slater began to pursue the vehicle northbound on Wildwood Road, ending with the car sliding into the brush at the end of Ridling Road after the road ended. The suspect, later identified as Matthew D. Hulen (23) of Coos Bay, fled from the vehicle on foot while being chased by Sgt. Slater across U.S. Hwy 101 onto Crannog Lane. Sgt. Slater could not catch the suspect and returned to his patrol vehicle to retrieve K9 Cena to conduct a criminal apprehension track. K9 Cena began tracking for Mr. Hulen while several perimeter units from the Oregon State Police, North Bend Police, and Sheriff’s Office arrived in the area and were placed by Sgt. Slater via radio. While tracking westbound on Crannog Lane, a perimeter unit observed the suspect running westbound about 200 yards in front of the K9’s location. Ultimately a Trooper from the Oregon State Police on the perimeter was able to place Mr. Hulen into custody without incident. Mr. Hulen was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he remains in custody on the charges of attempted assault II, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, eluding by vehicle, eluding by foot, reckless driving, and reckless endangering.
Lost Father & Daughter Found, Middle Ck, MP
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 7, 2023 at 3:52 p.m.; Case Number(s): N/a; Classification: Missing Person; Location: Middle Creek, Myrtle Point; Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers are vital in locating the missing man and his daughter. On April 7, 2023, at 3:52 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a “Text to 911” call from a woman at Park Creek Campground, located off Middle Creek, stating her husband and daughter were lost in the woods. Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers C. Stone, A. Ott, and Trainee J. Wymore combined their skills and worked as a team to gather information via text and relay it to Sgt. Smith and Deputies Gray, Kent, and M.R. Smith. With darkness looming and receiving information that the missing child was (14), Dispatchers were able to ping the phone of the father and received grid coordinates. At about 6:00 p.m., Deputies in the area were able to respond to these coordinates, where they located the man and his daughter. Although tired and hungry the man and his daughter were unharmed and reunited with their family. We can’t thank Dispatchers C. Stone, A. Ott, and J. Wymore enough for their professionalism and for always going above and beyond to get us every piece of information possible to help reunited loved ones when one goes missing.
Illegal Camp, Eel Ck.
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 8, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.; Case Number(s): S23-07698; Classification: Warrant Arrest / Investigation into Trespass and Criminal Mischief; Location: Eel Creek Campground, Lakeside (OSP Managed State Park); Suspect(s): Clemons, Richard D. (44); Sheriff’s Office receives a complaint of illegal camping at Eel Creek State Campground. One man was arrested, and the debris are scheduled for removal. On April 8, 2023, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Press Information Officer (PIO) received information from a concerned resident in Lakeside about an illegal camper at the Eel Creek State Campground. In addition, the resident provided photos showing the camp and the unlawful removal of a U.S. Department of Agriculture sign that was now placed outside the camp. After receiving this information, the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Division conducted a follow-up investigation. At 17:00 hours Det. Davis responded to the illegal camp at Eel Creek State Campground. Det. Davis made contact with the occupant of the camp, who was identified as Richard D. Clemons (44). Mr. Clemons was found to have several outstanding warrants for his arrest. Mr. Clemons was arrested on the outstanding warrants and questioned about his illegal camping in the area. Mr. Clemons was also asked about removing a U.S. Department of Agriculture sign and posting it outside his camp. Mr. Clemons did not provide any explanation. Det. Davis contacted the Oregon State Police to remove Mr. Clemons’s illegal camp and trash. Det. Davis learned that the Oregon State Police were already working on the situation, and ODOT had been notified for the debris removal. Det. Davis also contacted the U.S. Department of Agriculture regarding the stolen sign at the camp and seized it from the location. Mr. Clemons was transported to the Coos County Jail on the outstanding warrants, where he remains in custody. An investigation into the stolen sign and illegal dumpling are continuing by the Oregon State Police and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, respectively. Domestic Strangulation, Bunker Hill
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 8th, 2023, 7:44 p.m.; Case Number(s): S23-07704; Classification: Domestic Strangulation; Location: Fourth Road, Bunkerhill, Coos Bay; Suspect(s): Michael D. Williams (46); On April 8th, 2023, at 7:44 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Officer Dispatch Center received a report of a disturbance in progress on Fourth Road in Bunkerhill just south of Coos Bay. Sgt. J. Clayburn responded to the location and contacted the victim. After speaking with the victim. Sgt. J. Clayburn developed probable cause for the arrest of Michael D. Williams (46) on the charge of domestic strangulation. Michael Williams was transported to the Coos County Jail on the charge of Domestic Strangulation, where he was booked and remains in custody.
