Downed Aircraft, North Bank Lane, Coquille
CCSO release – Date / Time: July 8th, 2023, around 2:33 pm; Case Number(s): Classification: Downed Aircraft; Location: North Bank Lane, Coquille; Operator(s): Raymond Kimball (70s). Coos County Sheriff’s Office responds to downed aircraft near North Bank Lane – On July 8, 2023, around 2:33 pm, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office and the Coquille Fire Department responded to a field off of North Bank Lane in response to a downed aircraft.  The pilot, and only individual onboard, Raymond Kimball (70s), survived the crash and was transported to Bay Area Hospital, Coos Bay.  The National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB) was contacted and will conduct an investigation.

CCSO release – Date / Time: July 2nd, 2023, around 2:00 pm; Case Number(s): 202300020616; Classification: Wreck fatality; Location: Oregon Dunes; Deceased: Steven Hagenbuch (29). Grants Pass man passes away following a motorcycle wreck in the Oregon Dunes. On July 2nd, 2023, around 2:00 pm, Coos County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding an individual unconscious and not breathing following a motorcycle wreck in the Oregon Dunes. Sergeant M. Smith and Deputies MR. Smith and B. Kent immediately responded to the area. Despite the combined efforts of your Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Bay Cities Ambulance, and the Hauser Fire Department, Steven Hagenbuch (29) of Grants Pass succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A thorough investigation determined that high winds, the changing landscape, and the glare from the sun contributed to this fatal incident. Steven’s friends and family assisted with life-saving efforts during this tragic event. Your Coos County Sheriff’s Office wishes to express our deepest condolences to Steven’s family and loved ones.

DUII, Bastendorf Beach Rd.
CCSO release – Date / Time: July 4th, 2023, around 10:25 pm; Case Number(s): 202300020873; Classification: DUII; Location: Bastendorf Beach Road; Suspect: Preston Mendez (33). A 33-year-old man was cited for DUII during the 4th of July festivities. On July 4th, 2023, around 10:25 pm, Deputy MR Smith observed a red Ford truck almost hit an oncoming vehicle on Bastendorf Beach Road. Deputy Smith activated his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop in the North Bastendorf Beach gravel parking lot. The driver of the Ford was identified as Preston Mendez (33). Mr. Mendez was found to be intoxicated, and an open alcohol container was visible in the center console. Mr. Mendez failed the breath test and was issued a citation for DUII and Reckless Driving. Mr. Mendez has an extraditable warrant out of Texas for a traffic crime; however, due to jail capacity and housing restrictions, the Texas warrant was cleared instead of releasing an individual in custody with local crimes to make room. Mr. Mendez was released to a sober adult.
