Olive Road, Barview, Oregon 97420; Suspect(s): Steely L. Saye (42); Information to be released: On March 16th 2023 at 1:25 a.m. the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of an assault occurring on North Olive Road, in Barview just south of the city of Coos Bay. Deputies H. Francis, A. Burgo and S. Starr responded to the location and contacted Steely L. Saye (42) years of age from Coos Bay outside the residence. While Deputy Francis was trying to speak with Mr. Saye about the incident he aggressively approached her and made unwanted physical contact with her. Mr. Saye also spat in both Deputies Francis and Starr’s face, while also making homophobic statements to Deputy Francis. A full investigation into the original call for service was unfounded. Steely L. Saye (42) was arrested on the charges of aggravated harassment, initiating a false report and disorderly contact II, based on his contact with Deputies on scene. Mr. Saye was transported to the Coos County Jail where he was booked.

CCSO release – Date / Time: March 16, 2023, at 8:30 p.m.; Case Number(s): N/a; Classification: Traffic Crash with CCSO Patrol Vehicle (Unoccupied); Location: Oak Street, North Bend, Oregon 97459; Involved: Refer to North Bend PD (Agency Handling Crash); After swerving to miss an animal, a man crashes into an unoccupied Coos County Sheriff patrol car. March 16th, 2023, at 8:30 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a report from an off-duty deputy sheriff that his vehicle had just been struck. The deputy was off duty, and the car was legally parked on Oak Street, a residential street in North Bend. First responders on the scene contacted the man involved in the accident, who stated he was uninjured. An officer from the North Bend Police Department immediately responded, along with a supervisor from the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office is highly thankful no one was injured and also greatly appreciates the assistance of the North Bend Police Department for their investigation of the traffic crash.

CCSO release – Date / Time: March 16, 2023, at 11:06 a.m.; Case Number(s): S23-05859; Classification: Driving While Suspended (Misdemeanor); Location: Newmark Ave / Edgewood Drive; Suspect(s): Skyler Waldrop (31); Skyler Waldrop (31) was arrested for criminal driving while suspended; On March 16, 2023, at 11:06 a.m. Deputy B. Davis recognized a man from previous contacts as Skyler Waldrop (31) from Coos Bay. Mr. Waldrop was driving a black late 90’s model Mercedes. Deputy B. Davis contacted the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center via radio and learned Mr. Waldrop’s driving status in Oregon was misdemeanor suspended. A traffic stop on the vehicle was initiated near the intersection of Newmark Ave and Edgewood Dr in Coos Bay. Skyler Waldrop was arrested for criminal (misdemeanor) driving while suspended and driven to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked.
