These (2) deputies are responsible for protecting all residents and responding to all emergency and non-emergency calls in the county’s unincorporated areas, including Lakeside and Powers. (If Powers officers are off duty). The boundaries of Coos County are Hwy 101 near Tugman State Park to the north, Hwy 101 near Langlois to the South, Hwy 42 near milepost 45 to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the West. Coos County’s population is just shy of 65,000 the breakdown of police coverage follows. Coos Bay Police – 15,985; North Bend Police – 10,317; Coquille Police – 4,015; Myrtle Point Police – 2,475; Bandon Police– 3,321; Powers Police- 712; Coos County Sheriff’s Office – 28,175. The Sheriff’s Office does have “Contract Deputies” to patrol particular areas of Coos County. These are Timber Patrol, Dunes Patrol, and Marine Patrol. However, in most cases, they are patrolling their contracted areas and are not available to handle patrol calls. Kissinger (48). Lakeside man arrested after giving a false name to Dunes Deputy on a traffic stop. On Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 11:47 a.m., a Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dunes Deputy patrolled the Lakeside ATV Route near Airport Way and N. 8th Street in Lakeside, Oregon. Deputy M.R. Smith observed a white Ford van conduct a traffic violation on Airport Way and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. The passenger quickly exited the car and walked away from the traffic stop. The driver stated he did not have an Oregon-issued identification with him. The driver also noted that the vehicle was his; however, he had no legal paperwork. The driver provided false information to the deputy by name and date of birth. Deputy M.R. Smith exhausted all avenues to identify the driver and eventually arrested him for failing to carry and present a license. The driver was removed from the vehicle, placed in handcuffs, and was being walked to the patrol vehicle when he admitted he was James T. Kissinger (48) of Lakeside. Dispatch conducted a record check on Mr. Kissinger, revealing he had multiple warrants outstanding for his arrest. Dispatch further advised that Mr. Kissinger’s driving status was suspended misdemeanor. Mr. Kissinger was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and later released on the warrants. Mr. Kissinger was also issued citations for the crimes of DWS misdemeanor, failure to carry and present, and giving false information to a police officer.
