Weapon Discovered Outside CCJ
CCSO release – Date / Time: May 8, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.; Classification: Weapon outside of Coos County Jail; Location: Coos County Jail / 200 E. 2nd Street, Coquille, Oregon; Suspect(s): Unknown; Construction worker locates large butcher knife outside of Coos County Jail. Several times a day, Jail staff do “Security rounds” around the jail’s perimeter to search for contraband potentially coming into the facility. Over the years on these “Security rounds,” members of the Coos County Jail have located drugs, weapons, notes, escape plans, and “Fishing lines” hanging from windows of cells to receive illicit items, to name a few. We have all seen movies where incarcerated individuals attempted to bring weapons, drugs, or other contraband into the facility from over the walls, through the windows, brought in by a visitor, etc. Unfortunately, this is a reality to this day at all correctional facilities Nationwide. On May 8, 2023, at 8:00 a.m., a construction worker located a large butcher-style knife directly outside the Coos County Jail and turned it into jail staff. It is unknown why this knife was directly outside the Coos County Jail. However, if this item was introduced into the Jail population, we cannot even fathom the destruction it could have caused. We are incredibly thankful for this man’s (who wished to remain anonymous) vigilance.
