Lost Mushroom Hunters Found
CCSO release – Date / Time: October 9, 2023 at 7:06 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2023-00030072; Classification: Missing Person X3; Location: Coos County Forrest / Hwy 101 MM 248. Sheriff’s Deputy hikes into the thick brush to locate (3) lost mushroom pickers. On October 9th, 2023, at 7:06 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a man stating he and two women were lost in the woods and needed help. Dispatch acquired GPS coordinates from the 911 call and provided them to the on-duty patrol Sergeant. The Patrol Sergeant responded to the Coos County Forrest just off U.S. Hwy 101 near mile marker 248, where he located the vehicle belonging to the (3) lost subjects. The supervisor traversed the brush, woods, creeks, and thorns, ultimately finding the lost individuals. All three subjects were led out of the brush to U.S. Hwy 101, where Troopers from the Oregon State Police assisted by giving the man and two women a ride back to their vehicle. Although dehydrated and embarrassed, the three mushroom pickers were unharmed. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind ALL individuals who recreate outdoors to be aware of their surroundings and have a GPS or equivalent. Take extra water and food, and be prepared to spend the night in the woods in a worst-case scenario.

Indiana Fugitive Arrested in Bunker Hill
CCSO release – •••Fugitive from Indiana arrested by Coos County Deputy during investigation into unrelated matter*** On October 9th, 2023, Deputy B. Freerksen was in the Bunker Hill area of Coos Bay investigating a Burglary. During the course of the investigation Deputy Freerksen learned one of the involved parties had an extraditable warrant out of the State of Indiana. Deputy Freerksen identified the individual as Michael B Waters (35). Coos County Dispatch confirmed the warrant out of Indiana. The warrant was indicated to be in relation to a Probation Violation on the original charges of DUII and causing bodily injury. Waters was arrested on the Warrant and lodged at the Coos County Jail where he is currently awaiting extradition to Indiana after the court process concludes. Waters will be allowed to waive extradition and be transported quickly to Indiana, or he has the right to dispute the merits of the warrant, in which turn he could remain in the custody of Coos County for an extended period of time.
