CCSO release – The Coos County Sheriff’s Office conducted saturation patrols in July targeting the White Cedar Days and Coos County Fair. One person was arrested by Sheriff’s deputies during these patrols. This Sheriff’s Office effort is paid for through a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation administered by the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association. These extra saturation patrols focused on targeting those drivers who choose to operate their vehicles while under the influence of an intoxicant. An intoxicant can be but is not limited to alcoholic beverages, marijuana, illegal narcotics, prescription medication intended for use when not driving and substances such as spray paint used as an inhalant. Local Drug Recognition Evaluators (DRE’s) will be available for assisting the patrol officers. Additionally, the saturation patrols sought to increase overall safety on our roads and highways in Coos County by having a law enforcement presence, enforcing all traffic laws, and having positive contacts with citizens of Coos County and those who visit. The next scheduled saturation patrols will occur on Labor Day weekend to wrap up the end of summer activities in Coos County. Each long holiday weekend Coos County sees an influx of thousands of visitors who come to recreate on our dunes, in our forests and on the waterways. These saturation patrols help to keep our roadways safe as they target those who break the law.
