The Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) would like to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July. Many areas throughout Coos, Curry and western Douglas Counties are showing signs of the third year of drought conditions. Grasses and other fast-burning fuels are primed for fire starts and are posing a serious threat. CFPA reminds all residents to use caution when celebrating during the holiday weekend, and keep in mind the restrictions that are in place. Under the Regulated Use Closure currently in effect, the use of fireworks is prohibited on all lands protected by CFPA. Open fires, including campfires, charcoal fires, cooking fires and warming fires, are prohibited except at designated locations. Portable cooking stoves using liquid or bottled fuels are allowed. We need everyone’s help to ensure a wildfire-free holiday. It is still possible to celebrate and enjoy the holiday while being fire safe. Families can contact local media or a local activity calendar and attend one of several approved, licensed fireworks displays. For more information on current restrictions, please contact your local CFPA office or go to the district’s website at www.coosfpa.net.
