Celebrating 50 years of Music at Southwestern, the SWOCC Music Department Ensembles will perform their end of year concerts, June 1

The Music Department at Southwestern Oregon Community College is pleased to present its end of the year concert series on June 1, 2, & 4, 2015 at the Hales Center for Performing Arts on the Coos campus. Celebrating 50 years of music at SWOCC, these concerts are presented free to the public and will begin at 7:00 pm each night. On Monday June 1 at 7:00 pm, the SWOCC Symphonic Choir, under the direction of David Aakre, will perform a variety of works from the traditional large choir repertoire. On the second half of their concert they will perform Franz Schubert’s Mass in G Minor accompanied by SWOCC’s Community Orchestra under the direction of Mark Allen. On Tuesday June 2 at 7:00 pm, the SWOCC Community Orchestra, under the direction of Mark Allen will perform a variety of works for Orchestra by Kabalevsky, Strauss, Liszt, Rimsky-Korsakov, Beethoven and Mancini. In addition, Rolly Toribio (Concertmaster and graduating SWOCC music student) will be a Violin soloist with the Orchestra, performing Beethoven’s “Romance for Violin and Orchestra Opus 50”. On Thursday June 4 at 7:00 pm, come join us for an evening of Jazz music as the SWOCC Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Charlotte Pierce, will perform a variety of tunes arranged for Swing Choir. Finally, the concert will conclude with SWOCC’s Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Professor Mike Turner. The Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of Jazz classics along with a couple Jazz arrangements by Professor Turner. While all the concerts are free and open to the public, the music department will be accepting donations to help pay for our many department needs.
