News release from the Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s Office. On April 20, 2015, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a residential burglary in the 200 Block of Yaquina View Drive, Newport, OR. The investigation revealed the home owner’s residence had been entered by force and multiple items were taken, including a 2010 Toyota Tundra pickup. On April 22, 2015, 46 year old Salem resident Leean L. Wick was arrested in Salem by a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for Forgery II and Possession of a Forged Instrument. It was learned that Wick was in possession of some of the Newport home owner’s bank account checks. Detectives with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to Salem to conduct additional investigation. On April 27, 2015, Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives located 40 year old Salem resident James E. Van Dyke in the Salem area and detained him for theft in connection with stolen property from the Newport area burglary. Van Dyke was subsequently arrested on a parole violation warrant and transported to the Marion County Jail. Following Van Dyke’s arrest, Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives enlisted the assistance of the Salem Police Department Property Crimes Unit and contacted additional suspects related to the Newport burglary. Information was developed which led to the recovery of the Newport home owner’s vehicle in Salem and the arrest of suspect, Robert C. Stice, 41 years old from Salem. Stice was operating the stolen vehicle when contacted. He was subsequently transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. A search warrant was obtained for Stice’s residence in Salem while additional information was being developed on the Newport burglary and other property crimes that occurred in Marion County. Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives and Salem Police detectives obtained an additional search warrant for a second residence in Salem which was executed on April 28, 2015. Salem residents Anthony C. Meyers, 29, and Summer M. Newman, 27, were located in the residence and taken into custody. During the search of Meyers’ and Newman’s residence, stolen property from the Newport burglary as well as numerous other stolen items related to burglaries and thefts in the Salem and outlying region were located and recovered. Information was obtained which assisted detectives in the recovery of three additional stolen vehicles taken from the Willamette Valley area. Meyers and Newman were both transported to the Marion County Jail and lodged on local charges connected to burglary and theft, possession of stolen property, and other related crimes. Your Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office expects further charges to be filed against Meyers and Newman for their involvement in the Newport burglary case. The investigation is continuing and remains active.
