Central Coast Elude, Nov. 12

LCSO release – On November 9th, 2018 at approximately 3:30 PM, Deputy Siscilee Gouge saw a white Ford Ranger illegally pass multiple vehicles southbound on Highway 101 near NW Lighthouse Drive in Newport.  When Dep. Gouge attempted to stop the vehicle, it began to flee at a high rate of speed.  Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Newport Police Department units pursued the vehicle southbound.  The vehicle became blocked by traffic at the intersection of Highway 101 and Olive St. Deputies and officers began high-risk traffic stop procedures and attempted to take the driver into custody.  The driver, 59 year-old Otis resident Mary Joanna Henderson, refused commands to exit the vehicle.  Deputies were required to force entry into the vehicle to remove Henderson.  Two deputies sustained minor injuries on broken glass during a brief physical confrontation that ensued.  They were later treated and released from the hospital. Henderson was charged with Attempting to Elude a Police Officer-Felony, Reckless Driving, and Resisting Arrest.  Her bail was set at $80,000.
