Personnel from the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office are still at the scene of this morning’s, Friday, Feb. 28, fire which took the life of an adult female and two children in Seal Rock. The fire is being ruled an accident and the investigation revealed the fire started by combustible material being placed too close to a space heater.  The names of the victims are not expected to be released until their identity is verified by the Medical Examiner’s Office.  The investigation is being assisted by members of the Oregon State Police, Newport Police Department, Seal Rock Fire Department, Newport Fire Department, Central Coast Fire and Rescue and Yachats Fire Department.  The first news release, “At about 0630 hours this morning Seal Rock Fire was dispatched to an address on Deer Hill Drive, Seal Rock regarding a report of a fully engulfed fifth wheel trailer.  Central Oregon Coast Fire and Rescue and Yachats Fire were dispatched to assist with the fire.   Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies were also dispatched as the 911 callers reported there were people inside.  Deputies and fire personnel reported there were two fully engulfed structures on fire upon arrival. The fire had also spread to a motorhome near the fifth wheel trailer.  Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office detectives are on scene at this time conducting a joint investigation with the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office.  Investigators have confirmed that an adult female and two children are deceased inside the fifth wheel trailer.  Family notifications are being made and names are not being released at this time.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  Expect the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to submit an updated media release regarding this fire later today.”
